VASSAR COLLEGE STUDENT PROJECTS 2018

1. The Vassar College Film Department is holding an open call for their Senior Narrative Films. Seeking actors LOCAL to the Hudson Valley area. There are many films and many roles for ages 16 and up (please refer to the films and roles below to see the specific needs of each project and where you may fit in ).
We are open to all ethnicities/genders and abilities.

2. The auditions will be from 4-8pm on Feb 23, 2018.

            We need SAG-AFTRA(student agreement contract) and NON-UNION actors

               Shoot dates are varied and are likely to be only two or three day commitments in late February,
                 March and perhaps a tiny bit in April. Filming takes place mostly near Vassar College in
                 Pougkeepsie New York.

*There is no pay for this work, but in return for your volunteerism, a copy of your work and meals will be provided.

Runaway (Working Title)
Maxwell Quill

​10-year-old Hallie feels invisible to two parents who loathe each other. After a particularly bad fight that ends in a physical confrontation, she decides to take her fate into her own hands and leave home altogether.

MOM, 39, female, athletic. Stuck in a lifeless, tense, and sometimes confrontational marriage. Used to have goals of being a writer, but now lives day to day, trying to avoid interactions with her husband and the 10-year-old daughter that keeps them stuck with each other.

DAD, 40, male, medium build. Works at a desk job all day, and comes home to a wife that he's sick of and a 10-year-old daughter he barely has a relationship with. He resents his wife for not keeping a job, and doesn't know what to do with his daughter.

CALVIN - 17, male, lanky, tall, reserved, depressed, just trying to survive high school.

ANDREW-18, male, athletic, lean, masculine, spoiled, well-liked, selfish, trying to savor the end of his senior year and lose his virginity before college.

​Being Relevant
Harmony Reid

Marcus is a young man trying to make it in the local drug business. But when he runs into trouble, despite his attempts to handle things like "a man," it's his older sister who has to bail him out.

MARCUS, 18, relatively tall still looks like a teenager, is constantly trying to prove himself to peers and older role models. He's a good kid but got pulled into a world of crime because of the people he surrounds himself with.

ZOE, 23, short/average height, a bit curvy, confident and full of fire. She takes care of the whole family and can only do so by using her bossy older sister instincts. Character inspiration: the older sister, Nani, on Lilo and Stitch.

JAY, 25-29, local drug boss, tall toned man who has clearly earned his position as ringleader. He's wise in his own way but doesn't tolerate nonsense. Wants the best for subordinates but won't hesitate to teach them a lesson.

DRUG THUGS, all men age 20-28 with various looks but all are rough, slightly-very intimidating and have seen some stuff in their days. Loyal to their boss and each other, have a real community and friendship built around something that seems so sinister.

Eros and Psyche

During a blackout in New York City, an apartment building’s power is shut off. Among these apartments, there is only one that has not been illuminated, as the couple inside, seemingly unaware of the power outage and the ensuing chaos, have chosen instead to adapt to the dark. Meanwhile, an electrician and his wife welcome a young woman who has lost her keys into their apartment and the three of them begin to discuss the nature and cause of the blackout. When the electrician and the young woman go upstairs to check on their mysterious neighbors, they hear only strange whispers and watch as dark masses of petals appear under the doorframe. On the other side, the knocking is anxiously perceived as a looming threat. As the couple’s insular intimacy grows in their bedroom, a ghostly nest breeds in a corner of the ceiling. Back in the apartment below, tensions rise as the wife’s health worsens until at last she runs upstairs and opens the door to the mysterious apartment — at the same time, the power violently turns on across the entire city.

Girls With Long Fingernails

It is a young substitute teacher's first day teaching advanced geometry at an all girls, Catholic high school in the Bronx. When the sub unknowingly exhibits an ingrained sexism and racism, the girls nudge him towards an uncomfortable and vulnerable position as they objectify him, flirt with him, and expose his male gaze. Desperate to regain control of the classroom, the young teacher has an outburst that halts the girls' rebellion, but he displays a lack of emotional control and maturity. He slams a window shut, on his pinky --breaking it-- and is in serious pain, but the girls show him no compassion.
