But somehow feels unfulfilled. SUSAN DICKINSON, middle aged, intelligent, easy to talk to, an elegant hostess and a woman who likes to have fun (her father managed a tavern). Attracted to women who are artistic and sociable, living the good life while the men are out making money. NED DICKINSON, early 20s but young for his age, subject to epileptic fits, moody, resistant to authority and schoolwork but a favorite of his aunt Emily because he is so different. He has memorized the poems she wrote and showed to him. Close to her furry cat Miss Nobody. MR & MRS JAMESON, mid to late age, neighbors who live across from the Evergreens. MISS THORPE, young, student at Smith College in astronomy. In love with David.
